Good morning!
The task of writing quiz questions for a ‘Quiz of the Year’ style round is always an interesting one.
It may be sometime since you last received an email from Pub Quiz HQ, but thank you very much for subscribing my newsletter.
November rolls around and once the research begins, news stories pop up that seemed to have occurred years ago (example: it’s only ten months ago that Harry & Meghan left for Canada! 😮). It’s fair to say that this year has been the strangest in our short time writing quiz questions.
With movies, sport and film, the year 2020 was bobbing along ‘as normal’ until March when it came to a complete stop. It’s quite interesting to observe, looking back.
There will be more interest than ever in taking part in ‘Quiz of the Year’ rounds this Christmas and New Year - but we’ve got you covered at Pub Quiz HQ as today we send you the first four rounds of our retrospective look at the year that was.
Pick and choose which rounds you include in your own end of year quizzes - we will be thorough and aim to give you the broadest choice. You’ll find today’s set of quizzes below…
Now for today’s email teaser:
The tyrannical Miss Agatha Trunchbull is a teacher in which Roald Dahl novel?
Answer at the foot of this email!

If you’re super-organised and you’re already looking ahead to Christmas, our archives are chock-full of quiz rounds like this one in a series on Christmas number ones.
Looking further into November, here are some interesting dates and events around which you might like to organise events, fundraisers or quizzes.
26th November: Thanksgiving in USA
27th November: Black Friday
30th November: St. Andrew’s Day
November is also both Lung Cancer Awareness Month and ‘Men’s Health Awareness Month’.
2nd December: Lockdown II lifted 🤞
My day was made on Thursday when I received this tweet from podcast listener Becky:
Becky listens along to the pod in the car with her boyfriend and the two children, twins. She proudly tells me they always try and challenge them but Becky and her boyfriend are undefeated! That’s what I like to hear! Nice one Becky! 👏
I’m on the lookout for willing participants for the ‘Champions League’ event which will be taking place throughout December on the podcast.
If you’d be willing to join me to record an episode - answering 10 general knowledge questions and competing for the inaugural Pub Quiz HQ Champions League trophy, get in touch and we can arrange a recording time!
Two play-along podcast quizzes were posted this week. You can take part using the links below.

If you enjoyed listening to the podcast, please consider leaving a review in iTunes or giving us a ‘follow’ on Spotify! It really helps!
For today’s dig back into our archives, I’ve chosen this ‘complete quiz of 52 questions’ we published back in July 2020. It contains a broad range of questions from our archives but will keep people entertained with questions on sport, music, science, history, books and general knowledge.
Thank you for taking the time to subscribe.
